Founded in 2005, The Dong Fang Chinese Performing Arts Association is a community-based, not-for-profit (501C3) organization dedicated to presenting Chinese performing arts to people from all backgrounds in the greater Chicago area. Dong Fang means ‘Eastward Direction’ in Chinese, and symbolizes our mission of opening a window to the "Eastern" arts and cultures. We have total of 150 performers in 5 groups: chorus, dance, theater, Chinese opera and Photography Forum. Our mission is to present high-quality Chinese performing arts to enrich the cultural life of local communities.
Dong Fang is based in Naperville, Illinois, but performers and audience members come from all over the Chicago area.
In the past, we have performed by invitation from the Chicago Public Library, Chicago public schools, retirement homes, large corporations, universities, and local music and art communities. We are often called on to support, via performers or stage management talent, other group's Chinese community events throughout Chicagoland including those hosted by the City of Chicago. We are best known for our Fall and Spring Festival performances which typically reach about 1000 audience members.
